When someone comes on to our lot and says they want to buy an exotic vehicle, we are probably just as excited as they are. We love talking about our used exotics, looking at the different kinds, and we especially love coming along for the test drive. But if you considering buying one for the first time, there are several things you should consider before you drive it off the lot. Here are a few of our tips for buying your first exotic car.

Narrow Down Your Exotic Car Choices

Before you head out to buy a new or used exotic vehicle, take a look online and compare vehicles from different brands. Do you consider yourself more of a Maserati or Ferrari type? Maybe a Porsche 911 just speaks to you. You don’t have to become an exotics expert overnight, but by simply getting familiar with the brands and some of their different models, you may get a better idea of what you would be most comfortable in. You can also check out some of the prices for new and used exotics, which will help you out a bit in this next section.

Have a Budget in Mind

Ok, we know, some of you are asking yourself, “I’m shopping for $100,000+ sports car, why should I be considering a budget at all?” Honestly, this section may not apply to some of you and you’ll just buy your first exotic without having to worry about money at all. If that’s the case, move on down to the next section.

However, for those of you who do consider price to be somewhat of a factor, then looking at the prices of new vs used exotics may be something you should keep in mind. Used exotics with just a few thousand miles will be considerably less than that same vehicle that’s just a model year newer. If you don’t believe us just go compare some of the vehicles in our inventory to some of the newer vehicles out there and you will see just how large the savings actually are.

Test Drive a Few Models

This one should be a no brainer. Before you actually purchase an exotic, it is best you take it for a test drive first. Even if you are absolutely in love with one and it’s the sports car you’ve always dreamed of, take it out for a spin first. If you are looking at several vehicles, a test drive is a great way to help you narrow down which one is your favorite.

Look at the Vehicle’s History!

This one we cannot stress enough! Whether you are buying your 1st, 5th, or 500th exotic, always, always, ALWAYS look at the vehicle’s past history before you buy it. Some of the key information you should get from the seller before you buy it includes:

• Service History
• Past Ownership
• Point-By-Point Inspection

For used exotic buyers, this will give you a better idea of what the vehicle you are looking at has gone through. If it has had several owners and has been in the shop for longer than it has been on the road, you might want to reconsider your purchase.
